Elgin
•Police say an undercover drug agent purchased a gram of cocaine from a man for $60 on Aug. 7. When the agent purchased 29 grams of cocaine for $800 at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday from the same man, he was arrested, a report said. Jauquin Martinez, also known as Marcos Artiega, a homeless man living in Elgin, was charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, police said. Martinez was unable to post a $28,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.
•A laptop computer, a computer case and business papers were stolen at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday from a hotel on the 400 block of Airport Road. The 53-year-old owner of the items from Medina, Ohio, told police he was checking out and placed the items near the front door.
•Approximately $500 of damage was done between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 7:15 a.m. Wednesday to a home under construction on the 700 block of Winged Elm. Police said mortar, construction glue, ceramic tile, hardwood flooring and caulk were thrown around the construction site.
South Elgin
An iPod and a carton of cigarettes valued at $440 were stolen between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Wednesday from a 2004 Ford Expedition parked on the 400 block of South Collins Street. The vehicle was unlocked in the driveway.
