FBI seeks help in finding bank robbery suspects
The public is being asked for help in identifying two people sought in connection with a June 27 bank robbery in Gurnee.
The FBI on Thursday released photos of a man and a woman believed to be involved in the robbery of the First Bank branch, 6121 Washington St.
"It's renewed interest on our part," FBI Spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said. "We just expanded it to a further area."
In that robbery, the man approached the teller about 2:45 p.m. and tried to make a withdrawal under the name "Paul Johnson." The teller couldn't locate an account under that name and told the man she could not give him any money.
The man climbed over counter, pushed the bank manager out of the way and grabbed an undisclosed amount of money from the bank vault, which was being audited at the time.
The man fled through the front door, leaving in a gold or tan colored Honda Odyssey minivan, with a temporary Wisconsin license plate. The plate number was not fully observed, but B34 84 were some of the numbers and letters, according to the FBI.
No weapon was displayed and no one was injured.
A few minutes before the robbery, a woman entered the bank and asked for directions. Authorities believe she may have been casing the bank and may be a person of interest in the investigation.
The robber is described as 35 to 40 years old, 5-feet, 10-inches with a heavy build, black hair, brown eyes and a mustache. He was wearing a baseball-style cap with "New Dad" written in pink across the front, an orange shirt with yellow and blue horizontal stripes, khaki shorts and white gym shoes.
No detailed description was provided for the woman.
Anyone recognizing either person or who has information on the robber are asked to call the Chicago FBI office, (312) 421-6700 or local police.
