Bring your best brownie to Dessert Challenge
Think you make the best brownie in Buffalo Grove?
Prove it.
For the third year, the Dessert Challenge is returning to Buffalo Grove Days. The event is sponsored by Chocolate Marvels and judging starts at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 1. The entry deadline is this Saturday; rules and applications are posted at www.vbg.org or at the village hall, 50 Raupp Blvd.
Contestants will compete against their peers in one of three separate competitions: juniors, teens and adults. The junior and teen competitions will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the adult judging beginning at around 2:30 p.m.
The four adult dessert categories are: brownies and bars; cookies; cakes and pies; and other, which includes bread, coffee cakes and any other culinary creation.
Dessert Challenge chairwoman Jane Primack said the adult division is limited to 36 people. The junior division is limited to 15 people.
There will also be a Trader Joe's cooking demonstration during the contest, she said.
It's free to enter the Dessert Challenge and each contestant gets an apron. Dessert Challenge winners receive gift certificates and prizes donated by local businesses.
After the winners are announced, the public can spend $1 for two samples of the desserts entered in the contest. Proceeds benefit the festival's food drive to support local pantries. Last year, the challenge raised $87.
