The King still reigns

You would have thought the Brockway Chophouse in Palatine had turned into Graceland last week.

The local restaurant celebrated the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death with a night filled with hound dogs, music and peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

More than 400 people from Highland Park to Orland Park showed up to confirm their love for The King.

One of those fans was Palatine resident Pam Sieben, who is an avid collector of all things Elvis.

She came wearing a guitar-theme purse and carrying one of her favorite possessions -- an official lock of the rock star's hair.

"It was a pretty good deal," said Sieben, who is 44. "I got it for about $50 or $60 bucks."

In her home, she has a whole room dedicated to Elvis with items collected over the years from garage sales, flea markets and eBay.

The Brockway Chophouse had a special menu consisting of Elvis favorites. General Manager Steve LaPino also organized a "Hound Dog" petting zoo in honor of his big hit song.

In front of the restaurant, the basset hounds were on display from Guardian Angel Basset Rescue.

And no celebration for this performer would be complete without a performance. Jimmy Damon was on stage for the evening in an Elvis jumpsuit.

Damon, who had performed with Elvis in the past, added a nice touch when he spoke in between songs about the star.

"It was a lot of fun," said Sieben. "Any time I can get out to events like this I always have a good time."
