Manhunt continues in Barrington Hills; students released from school
Barrington-area students were being allowed to return home late this afternoon, as police continue to search for two robbery suspects on foot.
Barrington Hills police said at 4:40 p.m. that the schools no longer were lock down.
Police had few details, but officials at Barrington Area Unit District 220 earlier in the day released an alert to their parents.
"The police department has informed us that they are currently in pursuit of two robbery suspects in the South Barrington area,ˆť" the letter stated. "As a result we are holding all Barrington High School and middle school buses going to South Barrington until we receive an all clear from the police. If this situation is not resolved by the end of the elementary school day buses will also be held at Rose Elementary School."ˆť
Superintendent Tom Leonard said some students in the district were also in a weather advisory, which delayed students from getting home on time also.
Other schools in the area also reportedly delayed student departures until weather conditions improved.
According to police, the search for the robbery suspects is taking place in the area of Routes 59 and 68.
