Track tips for Wednesday, Aug. 22

Last week was not one for the chalk player at Arlington Park, particularly on Polytrack, where the post-time favorites won only eight of the 43 races (18.5 per cent). For the meet, favorites are winning at a 29 per cent clip over the Arlington carpet. Arlington has discontinued its guaranteed Late Pick Four pools offered on Fridays and Saturdays. The $25,000 guaranteed put up on Fridays was eclipsed every time, but the track fell just short of Saturday's $50,000 projection on a few occasions.

Entries for Saturday's $150,000 Arlington sprint will be taken this morning, and stakes coordinator Craig Lytel has indicated that recent Grade I Bing Crosby winner In Summation may be among the names dropped for the 6-furlong dash.With 21 cards remaining in the Arlington meet, Randy Meier is 5 wins away from 4,000 for his career, and Wayne Catalano is just 9 victories shy of tying his own record of 69 training wins set in 2005.
