Carpentersville
•A Carpentersville man convicted of a sex offense was accused Monday of failing to register with local police. Michael R. Johnson, 36, of 95 Hickory Court, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, police said. Johnson was being held in the Kane County jail on $1,500 bond. His court date is Sept. 4 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
•An Elgin man was accused Monday of striking three teens at 9:15 p.m. on June 25 at a home on the 300 block of Four Winds Way, police said. Mario J. Cedillo, 18, of 2005 Medinah Circle, was charged with three counts of battery and one count of mob action, police said. Cedillo was being held in the Kane County jail on $2,500 bond. A preliminary hearing will be Sept. 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Elgin
•An Elgin man with a handgun was arrested at 1 p.m. Monday at 2 Times Square, police said. Kevin L. Houston, 22, of 1121 Indian Trail #20, was charged with aggravated use of a weapon, police said. The 9 mm Ruger had been stolen in Iowa, police said. Houston posted a $1,500 bond Tuesday. He has a Sept. 5 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
•A homeless man convicted of a sex offense was accused Monday of failing to register with local police. Simon T. Guyton, 46, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender, police said. Guyton was being held in the Kane County jail on $2,500 bond with an Aug. 29 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
•A burglar broke a window and stole a global positioning system and its power cord between 10 p.m. Sunday and 6:45 a.m. Monday from a 2003 Chevrolet van on the 300 block of Washburn Street.
Kane County
•Items valued at $616 were stolen between 9:20 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 a.m. Friday from a vehicle on the 17N200 block of Marney Road in Hampshire Township.
•Jewelry and cash valued at $2,369 were stolen between Aug. 11 and Sunday from a home on the 35W900 block of David Drive in Elgin Township.
•Items valued at $1,250 were stolen between 10 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday from a vehicle on the 14N900 block of White Plains Lane in Hampshire Township.
South Elgin
•A man's wristwatch worth $1,000 was stolen between 1 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday from the Good Will Store, 260 Randall Road.
