First baseman misses brother during season
This is Rounding the Bases, a chance to interact with members of the Kane County Cougars, the Class A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, who play at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.
Each week, we take questions from readers for the players.
Christine Bolin, who is in her fifth year covering the Cougars for the Daily Herald, asks those questions and writes the column for each Wednesday's Neighbor section.
This week, Bolin talked to Sean Doolittle, a first baseman who arrived to the Cougars July 3. He was drafted by the A's from the University of Virginia in the first round (41st overall) in the 2007 draft.
Q. Being away from home so much and for so long, who do you miss the most?
A. "My brother. We hung out a lot together. He plays baseball, too, so we always had that in common. It always seemed like we were watching each other play or we were playing together at some point."
Q. Describe the feeling you had when you were drafted.
A. "Wow. I was excited, I was relieved. I was anxious. I was really relieved when the whole draft process was over and all the questions to where I was going to go were answered. There were definitely a lot of emotions."
Q. If you could be a superhero, which one would you be?
A. "Batman. The car, maybe, has something to do with it. I don't know, I just think he's pretty cool. He seems almost human to me. All the other ones seem kind of weird."
