Village wants clean water

Carol Stream trustees passed a resolution Monday expressing concern over a permit issued to an oil refinery owned by BP Amoco in Whiting, Ind., that would allow the company to increase pollution of ammonia and other substances into Lake Michigan. The permit is part of an expansion plan that would allow the refinery to increase the processing of Canadian crude oil. Carol Stream receives its drinking water from Lake Michigan through the DuPage Water Commission. The county agency passed a similar resolution earlier this month.
