Radiogaphy pre-admission exam offered at ECC

The Elgin Community College professional radiography program has scheduled a pre-admission exam for 10 a.m. Sept. 6 or 18.

The exam, which is required prior to entering the radiography program, will be held in room 183 of the Health and Business Technology Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. It is a prerequisite for entry into the fall 2008 class.

This three-hour health occupation aptitude exam is sponsored by Psychological Services Bureau Inc. The nonrefundable fee for the test is $20, payable by cash, check or charge. Students must register and pay by Friday.

Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express are accepted. Students may visit psbtests.com for sample questions.

The demand for radiographers is expected to grow more than 15 percent through 2014, and there is an average of 134 annual openings in the five-county area surrounding ECC.

As the American population ages and technology advances, the need for radiologic exams and procedures continues to soar, leaving the country with a growing need for qualified medical imaging professionals.

Wages are competitive with other health professionals with similar educational backgrounds, $44,090 annually according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In addition, many employers allow radiographers to work flexible schedules, including part-time or evenings, giving them time to attend to family, children and other personal responsibilities.
