Lincolnshire woman arrested in kidnapping

A kidnapped Iowa girl was reunited with her father last weekend after Lincolnshire police tracked her non-custodial mother to a hiding place in Mexico.

Officials said Nancy V. Hayes, 55, of Lincolnshire, will face child abduction charges in Lake County after a combined team of Lincolnshire, FBI and Mexican law enforcement officers worked to find Caroline DeWulf, 10.

Lincolnshire Police Detective John-Erik Anderson said DeWulf, who had been missing since July 29, was reunited with her father, Kelly DeWulf, 48, Saturday morning.

Hayes remains in Houston on a $1 million warrant for child abduction. Anderson said she has waived extradition and is expected to return to the area in about 10 days.

Anderson said Lincolnshire police used phone records to find where Hayes had taken her daughter. Hayes does not have custody of the girl.

An Iowa court gave Hayes unsupervised visitation rights with DeWulf in June. On the second visit, police say, Hayes left with the girl.

Anderson said the department was "absolutely" pleased with the outcome of the investigation. He said they're satisfied "any time we can bring a successful conclusion."
