Grayslake Park District office, 240 Commerce Drive, offers office hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday.
Participants must register in advance for all programs at the administrative building. Registration is required one week prior to each program. If the minimum number of registrations is not received five days prior to each program, the program will be canceled.
Ponies flag football: Boys and girls ages 5-14 are invited to learn the basics of football in this instructional league. Volunteer parents will coach the teams. This will be a flag football-style league with no gear. Teams will practice one night per week with games on Saturdays, at either Woodview or Meadowview. Practices begin the week of Sept. 3; games will be Sept. 15 to Oct. 20. There will be a coaches meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Rec Center. All players must attend one player evaluation from 5 to 6 p.m. for 5- to 6-year-olds, 6 to 7 p.m. for 7- to 8-year-olds and from 7 to 8 p.m. for 9- to 14-year-olds on Wednesday at Woodview School. Cost is $65 for residents and $81 for nonresidents.
Little league soccer: This fundamental league will provide an opportunity to learn the skills of soccer in a low key, non-competitive, fun atmosphere. Volunteer parents will coach this league. The league will be set up with kids practicing for 30 minutes, then playing a 30-minute game the second half of each scheduled game time. Children will be separated by age: Division I for ages 4 to 5½ or first-time players, and Division II for ages 5½ to 6 or players who have played two previous seasons. This is not a drop off class. This class will meet unless there is heavy rain or storms. Request coach or teammates when registering. Players will be contacted one week prior to the first game for game times. There will be a coaches meeting and draft at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rec Center. Each player will receive a T-shirt; note size at the time of registration.
Fall adult softball leagues: Join the 14" Co-Rec Adult Softball league. A minimum eight-week season will be played, including play-offs. Games will be played at 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. Friday nights beginning on the Aquatic Softball Field. All games will be officiated using A.S.A. rules. Cost is $415 for resident teams (at least 50 percent from Grayslake) and $465 for nonresident teams. For more information call Nate Flannery at (847) 223-7529.
Men's fall basketball: Teams will play a minimum 10-game season with a season ending tournament. IHSA rules will be used and all games will be officiated. Games will be played on Wednesdays, Sept. 12 to Dec. 5 in the Rec Center gym; times will vary each week between 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. There will be no games played Oct. 31 and Nov. 21. This league is for ages 18 and up. Cost is $625 for resident teams and $675 for nonresident teams. There will be an organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Rec Center. Glow ball golf tournament: Golfers ages 16 and up can test their skills at night starting at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at Carillon North Golf Course. Glow in the dark golf balls will be provided. The event will be a 9-hole tournament; golfers will play five holes starting at 7 p.m., come in for a snack break, then go back onto the course and play four more holes in the dark. Register as a single, couple or group. The cost is $20 per person. Register by Saturday. Refreshments and prizes will be part of the fun.
Travel softball tryouts: Girls ages 9 to 16 are invited to come tryout for the 2008 Travel Softball Season. Four teams will be formed (pending interest and ability): 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U. Teams will play during late spring and summer of 2008. Girls participating on high school teams will begin once their high school season has ended. All tryouts will be held at the Aquatic Softball Field in Central Park. Tryouts will be held Saturday at the following times:
•10U: 1 to 2:30 p.m.
•12U: 2:30 to 4 p.m.
•14U: 4 to 5:30 p.m.)
•16U: 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Fall T-Ball league: Learn the basics of baseball with the help of a tee (older division has option of coach's pitching). Teams will practice one night per week and play games on Saturdays. Volunteer parents will serve as coaches. Players will be separated into divisions by age: Division I for ages 4 to 5½ and Division II for ages 5½ to 7. Practices will begin the week of Aug. 27 and games will be played Sept. 15 through Oct. 20 at the Aquatic Field. Cost is $70 for residents, and $88 for nonresidents.
Parent/child golf tourney: Each team of parent and child ages 8 to 14 will compete in a handicap tournament against other teams from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 8 at Carillon North Golf Course. There will also be "colored" ball, closest to the pin and longest putt contests and special junior challenge. Fees include golf, prizes and refreshments. The cost is $25 per two-person team. Register by Aug. 31.
Friday evening open: Through Aug. 31, all golf rounds played after 3 p.m. on Friday evenings will be included in a special weekly tournament. To enter, simply turn in the completed score card (with scores and player information) to the clubhouse staff. After all rounds are played each Friday evening, three holes will be picked at random to determine a handicap for each person participating. Prizes will be awarded for low net scores each week. All results will be maintained on the clubhouse bulletin board and provided via e-mail to all participants. There are no extra fees - regular green fees apply.
Touch A Truck: The Grayslake Park District is putting together an assembly of trucks and tractors including such vehicles as: dump trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, backhoes, garbage trucks, bulldozers and many more, for kids to touch, from noon to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 9 in the Grayslake Aquatic Center Parking Lot. Register for this event by Sept. 2. The cost is $1 per child. All proceeds from this event will benefit the park district's Grant In Aid Scholarship Program. In conjunction with the Touch A Truck Program, the Grayslake Fire Department will hold a car seat safety check. The Grayslake Fire Department has child safety seat technicians trained in proper installment of child's seat. Technicians will inspect children's car seats, help make corrections if needed and give tips on the best way to protect children.
