Briefs: Hitch a ride after school

St. Charles School District 303 will provide a special bus this year so students can hitch a ride to after-school activities. Starting Wednesday, the bus departs at 5:13 p.m. on weekdays from the East High School Sports Complex, 1020 Dunham Road, and arrives at 5:40 p.m. at Bell-Graham Elementary School, 4N505 Fox Mill Blvd. Families who plan to use the service are asked to call (630) 377-4883.

Harrison School fun fair

Harrison Street School will hold its annual welcome back to school picnic and fun fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on the school grounds at 201 N. Harrison St. in Geneva. The event features an obstacle course, laser tag and inflatable bouncers. Tickets can be purchased at the event for 25 cents each. Special attractions, games and activities require from one to four tickets. Food and drinks range from two to six tickets. Non-perishable food items will be collected for Lazarus House. Garden club meeting

The Pottawatomie Garden Club of St. Charles will meet at noon Aug. 27 in the Community Room at MidAmerica Bank, 2600 E. Main St., St. Charles. Geneva floral designers Margy Walkington and Nancy Hollmeirer will demonstrate using clear glass containers for flower arrangements. The club meets monthly February through October. Kane tax bills due Sept. 1

The second installment of property taxes is due Sept. 1. If you need a copy of your tax bill, call the Kane County treasurer's office at (630) 232-3565. To check the payment status of your taxes or to print off your tax bill, visit www.co.kane.il.us/treasurer. If you're mailing your payment, the envelope must be postmarked by Sept. 1. You also can pay by credit card over the Internet or use the 24-hour drop box located behind Building A of the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

Senior golf tournament

Registration continues for the St. Charles Park District Senior Golf Tournament Sept. 8-9 at Pottawatomie Golf Course, 845 N. Second Ave. The tournament consists of nine holes each day and will be divided into five age groups. Entry fees are $28 and due by Sept. 2. The event is open to golfers 50 and older who have a St. Charles mailing address, live in the park district boundaries or have a season pass to the course. Registration can be done at the Pottawatomie Pro Shop on the golf course. For details, call (630) 584-8356.

Fest needs volunteers
