Candlelight Vigil: Organizations around the globe participate in The International Society for Animal Rights Homeless Animals Day each year to publicize the magnitude of the problem of dog and cat overpopulation and to promote responsible pet ownership. According to The Humane Society of the United States, about 6 to 8 million unwanted or stray dogs and cats end up in animal shelters in the United States every year. About half of these pets are euthanized. Although Save-A-Pet's no-kill policy strictly prohibits euthanization, the organization mourns the deaths of the millions of pets across the nation that are unable to be saved. The public is invited to join as they reflect upon the plight of these innocent lives, from 9 p.m. to midnight today in the Save-A-Pet parking lot, 31664 N. Fairfield Road, Grayslake.
