Downtown curb work closes intersection
An intersection in the middle of downtown Arlington Heights will be closed for three to four weeks while bigger curbs and brick crosswalks are installed, said Afshan Hamid a village design planner.
Traffic will be diverted around the intersection during the work, she said.
Work started at Dunton and Campbell this week when construction crews dug up huge slabs of concrete. Downtown businesses will be open during construction, Hamid said.
"Basically the new intersection will look like ones near Harmony Park at Vail and Campbell," Hamid said.
The village decided to close the intersection to speed up the project, she said.
"If we would've left the street open, the project would've taken up to eight weeks," she said. "This way the work will be done much faster and when its done the whole intersection will be more pedestrian friendly."
Shoppers and diners should park in the downtown parking garages to avoid congestion, Hamid said.
