LAKE BARRINGTON -- Foil and latex balloon maker CTI Industries, based in Lake Barrington, reported this week earnings more than doubled in the second quarter due to strong sales in higher margin products and in overseas markets such as the U.K. Net income for the quarter ended June 30 rose to $423,000, or 17 cents per diluted share, from $205,699, or 9 cents per diluted share, in the same period a year ago. Revenues rose 2.9 percent to $9.3 million, compared with $9 million in the year-ago period.
Elgin firm wins bid with Bartlett fire
ELGIN -- CallTele Inc., a network integration company in Elgin specializing in business phone and data systems, voice and data cabling, high speed internet and phone services, won the bid as the telecommunications equipment and service provider for the Bartlett Fire Protection District, the company announced. The new phone system will save the district $700 a month in phone costs, provide free calling between stations, provide e-mail notification from voice mail messages and will increase the number of phone lines to 23 in preparation for bringing a new station online next year, according to the company.
