Arlington Heights doctor certified in long-term care
The board of directors of the American Medical Directors Certification Program announced that Dr. Theodore M. Homa of Arlington Heights was granted the title of Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care. Homa is one of 2,200 physicians nationwide who have earned the designation since its inception.
The Certified Medical Director in Long Term Care program was created to enhance the profession of medical direction in long-term care, and to reinforce the leadership role of the medical director in providing quality care.
•The Illinois Department of Transportation honored Arlington Heights resident George Guderley with a 30-year Service Employee Award during a ceremony in July at its District One Headquarters. Diane O'Keefe, deputy director of highways, Region One engineer, presented the award.
In 1975, Guderley began his career at IDOT within the Bureau of Traffic. He left IDOT to attend the University of Illinois from 1972-75, returning to IDOT in May of 1978.
Guderley holds an associate's degree from William Rainey Harper College and is a member of the Illinois Association of Highway Engineers. He also coaches soccer for the Arlington Aces.
•Palatine resident Valerie Schultz was named the new director/teacher of Christ the King Lutheran preschool, a community ministry of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Palatine.
Schultz, a seasoned preschool teacher, has taught in parochial preschools and for the Palatine Park District preschool. Belinda Wagner, also of Palatine is the program's assistant.
Christ the King preschool is open to children ages 3-5 and operates from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. An open house will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, at the school, 100 W. Michigan Ave., Palatine. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call (847) 358-0230.
•The Ohio-based franchise Petland Inc., named Joshua Castro of Hoffman Estates Sales Manager of the Year.
Castro, who works for the Petland store in the Golf Center shopping center in Hoffman Estates, was honored with Petland's Presidential Award at the 2007 Petland Trade Show held Aug. 4, at Walt Disney World's Yacht and Beach Club Resort near Orlando, Fla.
As sales manager, Castro works with Petland pet counselors to positively affect staff morale and culture and to ensure high levels of customer service, satisfaction and sales. He is also responsible for monitoring departmental sales records.
