Track tips for Thursday, Aug. 16

There were no winner perfect tickets in Wednesday's Pick Six at Arlington, therefore a meet high $70,614 will carry over into today's wager. With Wednesday's first race victory aboard the Pat Mitchell-trained Delightful Vice, jockey Randy Meier is now just six wins away from the coveted 4,000 mark.

The first two juvenile turf races of the season will be run in the coming days, one for the girls on Friday and another for the boys on Saturday. An intriguing filly in Friday's event is the Todd Pletcher-trained first timer More Than Fair. By the $100,000 sire Mineshaft, she's out of the Woodman mare Woodman's Girl, making her a half sister to the multiple graded stakes winning millionaire More Than Ready. That tremendous colt was a bear at age two, and he's developed into an excellent sire of turf runners. The first time presence of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf breathes added significance into such races.
