Police: Couple forged checks on shopping spree
An East Dundee couple were accused Tuesday of misusing checks and credit cards, East and West Dundee police said after a two-month investigation.
Terry Mitchell, 32, of 558 Springwood Court, East Dundee, was charged by East Dundee police with two counts of forgery, retail theft, unlawful use of a credit card and theft. He was charged by West Dundee police with nine counts of forgery and two counts of credit card fraud.
His wife, Mieko M. Abrams-Mitchell, 38, of the same address, was charged by East Dundee police with two counts of forgery, retail theft, theft and unlawful use of a credit card.
On June 29, Abrams-Mitchell, a cashier at the East Dundee Wal-Mart, found a wallet with a credit card inside, police said.
Two days later, an Ohio woman accidentally sent a "lost purse" to their home by UPS that contained a checkbook, a credit card, a debit card and $457 in cash, police said.
The couple then went on a buying spree in East and West Dundee, police said.
"In one case, surveillance tapes at Wal-Mart show Terry Mitchell writing a check and Mieko, the cashier, typed in the victim's identification number," East Dundee Police Detective Mike Seyller said.
Bond for Terry Mitchell was set Wednesday at $15,000 and at $5,000 for Mieko Abrams-Mitchell.
Both were taken to the Kane County jail to await court dates on Aug. 30 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
