Police beat: Man accused of selling heroin

Carpentersville

•A Maywood man was accused of selling 0.9 grams of heroin to an undercover drug agent at 3æp.m. Tuesday in an east-side parking lot, police said. Willie E. Moore Jr., 38, of 2008 S. Fifth St., was charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, police said. Moore has eight prior convictions for dangerous drugs, according to court records. Moore was unable to post an $8,500 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. His court date is Aug. 29 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

•A DeKalb man was arrested Tuesday on two outstanding warrants, police said. Robert L. Ebert Jr., 23, of 132 Home Drive, was charged on both warrants with battery. Police said the incident occurred on Aug. 3 in Carpenter Park when Ebert grabbed a 19-year-old woman and threw her around. Ebert posted a $600 bond Wednesday and was released with an Aug. 31 court date in Elgin.

•A Carpentersville man was caught with fake ID during a traffic stop at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Western Avenue and Hillside Drive, police said. Fabian Jara, 19, of 166 Golfview Lane #F, was charged with possession of a fraudulent identification card, police said. Police also cited Jara for no valid driver's license, operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration and no insurance. Jara's bond was set at $750. He was taken to the Kane County jail to await an Aug. 30 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.

•A Carpentersville teen was caught with a fake ID during another traffic stop Tuesday, police said. Karen Ramirez-Navarro, 18, of 1622 Marlboro Circle, was charged with obstruction of justice and was cited for no valid driver's license after she handed an officer a phony driver's license, police said. Ramirez-Navarro was unable to post $500 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail. Her court date is Aug. 30 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Elgin

•An Elgin teen was accused of breaking into a car and trying to peel the striping off another Tuesday morning on the 1000 block of Byron Lane, police said. Ryan L. Hopp, 17, of 1288 Pleasant Drive, was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary, one count of resisting a police officer and one count of retail theft, police said. A total bond of $1,100 was set for Hopp. He posted the bond Wednesday and was released with an Aug. 31 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.

•A 50-year-old Elgin woman lost $2,000 Tuesday afternoon in the lottery scam, police said. A woman approached the victim on the 400 block of Summit Street, saying she needed help in getting her U.S. citizenship because she had a winning lottery ticket worth millions. A second woman joined the two and the victim withdrew $2,000 from her bank which was placed in an envelope. The two women gave the victim $10 and the envelope and asked her to go into a drugstore to buy some items. When the victim opened the envelope, it was filled with newspaper clippings and the two women were gone.

•A small amount of marijuana and an aluminum foil pipe with residue inside were found during a traffic stop at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at Larkin Avenue and Belmont Street, police said. Stephen M. Farwell, 32, of 59 Katrina Lane, Sleepy Hollow, was charged with the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, police said. He also was cited for disobeying a traffic device, police said. Farwell posted a $100 bond and was released with a Sept. 29 date at Elgin Branch Court.

Rutland Township

•The driver of a semi-trailer truck loaded with 43,000 pounds of flat steel drove into a ditch at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Route 20 and Reinking Road, police said. Rodney McDowell, 42, of Gary, Ind., was going too fast and drove into the deep ditch to avoid hitting a car that had been stopped by state workers performing maintenance on the road, police said. McDowell wasn't injured, but he was cited for use of an unsafe tire and driving on the shoulder of the road, police said. The intersection was closed for about three hours while the truck was removed.
