Ingleside man faces another burglary charge

A former Ingleside man who pleaded guilty to a 2004 house burglary that police say set the stage for the murder of a 16-year-old girl is again charged with burglary.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Mermel said Daniel Rowe, 22, was one of three men arrested early Monday morning while selling stolen property in a tavern parking lot.

Last year, Rowe pleaded guilty to acting as a lookout July 13, 2004 as two accomplices broke into a house on Route 59 in Ingleside.

The pair, Adam Christenson and Melissa Ward, stole an Xbox video game player and a digital camera, but neglected to take a power cord for the camera.

Unable to sell the camera at a pawn shop without the cord, police say Christenson, 22, of Ingleside, returned to the house the following day and was confronted by Elizabeth Willding, 16, who lived there.

Christenson stabbed Willding 40 times, police said, and is awaiting trial for her murder.

Rowe and Ward, 22, formerly of Antioch, were never accused of participating in the second burglary or the murder. Both pleaded guilty to residential burglary last year and were sentenced to prison.

Mermel said Rowe, who told police he lives in Trivoli, Ill., was with Wade Carlson, 24, and Kevin O'Kayne, 22, in the parking lot of Big E's, 800 W. Rollins Road, Ingleside, about midnight Monday.

Lake County sheriff's deputies were called because the trio was trying to sell merchandise to tavern patrons, Mermel said.

Police questioned the group, and Carlson reportedly told them the items they were trying to market had been stolen in a series of car burglaries throughout the area.

All three were arrested and appeared in court later Monday, where Associate Judge Mitch Hoffman set bond at $35,000 each.

State records show Rowe was paroled from prison July 21, 2006 and is scheduled to remain on parole until July 21 of next year.

O'Kayne was paroled Feb. 27 of this year after serving a sentence for a felony theft conviction and is to remain on parole until Feb. 27, 2008.

Rowe's next court date is Aug. 31. Court dates for Carlson, of 34722 Oden Ave., Long Lake, and O'Kayne, of 35849 N. Helendale, Ingleside, are pending.
