Last of Warren High vandals pleads out

The last of four teens charged with vandalizing cars at Warren Township High School as part of a senior prank pleaded guilty Thursday in Lake County circuit court.

Vince Banea, 18, of 1467 Evergreen Drive in Palatine, was placed on court supervision for one year after pleading guilty to criminal damage to property.

Warren Township residents Bradley Kierna, 18, of 66712 Douglas Terrace, and Kevin Nichols, 18, of 36177 Douglas Terrace, and Gurnee resident John Barnhill, 18, of 3610 Country Club Ave. entered similar pleas last month.

Assistant State's Attorney Marc Bangster said the group sprayed tanning lotion on cars parked at the school's Almond Road campus May 23.

A bus driver saw what was happening and called police, who caught the four after a short foot chase.

In addition to the court supervision, Associate Judge Victoria Martin fined all four $100, ordered them to perform 30 hours of community service and awarded the victims $471 in restitution.

All four are banned from having any contact with the school while they are under court supervision.

Charges of criminal trespass to state-supported land and obstructing a police officer were dropped in exchange for the pleas.
