Traffic eases as lanes open at Route 64 and Randall Road

Lanes opening today should ease congestion at the intersection of Route 64 and Randall Road in St. Charles.

Getting to businesses east of the intersection, however, might be a challenge.

The Kane County Division of Transportation plans to open two lanes in each direction on Route 64, from Randall Road east to 19th Street, for the last major phase of a two-year widening and resurfacing project.

At the same time, the Route 64 median in the same area will be under construction, making it impossible for motorists to turn left from either direction into business drives.

Chief of Construction David Boesch said this phase is expected to be complete in three to four weeks.

"Those businesses have been briefed on this, and they understand the impact," he said.

Route 64 west of the intersection also will open today to four lanes of traffic, but no median work will take place there.

Randall Road already is open to four lanes.

Once the Route 64 median construction is complete, Boesch said, crews will wrap up some final paving, landscaping, striping and traffic signal work.

Boesch said the project is on schedule and still targeted for completion Oct. 31.
