Police chief's wife remembered by Grayslakw

Grayslake Mayor Timothy Perry said he'll remember Josephine "Jo" Herzog as a woman who brought a ray of sunshine with her when she entered a room.

Herzog, 57, the wife of Police Chief Larry Herzog, died suddenly and unexpectedly late Saturday, Perry said. Village hall closed at 2 p.m. Tuesday so employees could attend her wake. He did not know the cause of death.

Perry said she had a vivacious personality and was known by many people in Grayslake. She worked as a professional fitness instructor for about 20 years.

"Very open, warm, caring person," Perry said of Josephine Herzog. "Just always had a bright smile on her face."

Perry said the police chief will be given as much time off as he needs before returning to work. In addition to her husband, Perry said, Mrs. Herzog is survived by three children and three grandchildren.
