Man's charges add up in Elgin

When police went looking for a man accused of beating up his ex-wife's husband, they didn't have to look far -- he was already in the Elgin lockup on a warrant for drunken driving.

Javier Perez, 40, of 216 Jefferson Ave., Elgin, was charged Wednesday with aggravated battery, along with the DUI charge, police said.

At 5:15 a.m. on July 26, police were called to a home on the 200 block of Spring Street, where Perez was reportedly hitting the 37-year-old man with a large piece of steel.

The victim tried to drive away, but Perez kept hitting him through an open car window, police said.

The victim suffered lacerations on his forehead and ribs, police said.

Kane County Judge Allen Anderson set Perez' bond at $5,000 for the battery charge and $500 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Perez was sent to the Kane County jail and is scheduled to make two appearances in two different courtrooms on Aug. 16.
