Fine Line workshop:
The Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles will have a weaving workshop Friday and Saturday. Fabric designer and weaver Suzanne Halvorson, who owns and operates a studio in Bloomington, Ind., is the scheduled presenter. The workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days in the barn weaving studio at Fine Line, 6N158 Crane Road. Participation and material fees range from $225 to $250. Violin virtuoso in Geneva:
Violinist and entertainer Jennifer Silk of Arlington Heights will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday in Good Templar Park, 628 East Side Drive, Geneva. She also will lead a sing-along and take requests from the audience. After the program in the International Organization of Good Templar's camp community house, Eleonor Holmberg will host refreshments for the attendees. Admission is free. Night Out in Aurora:
The Aurora Police Department is encouraging residents to take part in the 24th annual National Night Out from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. It is also requesting residents register their planned activities for the evening so department representatives and city officials have the chance to visit the various citywide events. This year the department is furnishing burglary prevention materials to groups who pre-register. National Night Out presents an opportunity for residents to send the message that violence, drugs and crime will not be tolerated. See big trucks up close:
Children can see emergency vehicles and tractors up close Aug. 11 at Langum Park in St. Charles. The Big Truck Show is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Admission is free, but families should register in advance by calling (630) 584-1055. Langum Park is two miles south of Main Street, between Riverside and Seventh avenues.
Drill team dance camp:
The St. Charles North High School drill team will have a dance camp Aug. 13 to 16 at Bell-Graham Elementary School, 4N505 Fox Mill Blvd. The North Star Drill Team Dance Camp is open to girls in first through eighth grades. Participants will learn dance routines, get a T-shirt and perform at the annual St. Charles North Black and Blue Scrimmage. Classes are from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Participation fees are $75. Pet care help needed:
A St. Charles-based animal rescue service is looking for volunteers to care for dogs and cats until they are adopted. Homes for Endangered and Lost Pets, a nonprofit, will provide food, supplies and veterinary care for the animals, as well as training for their temporary owners.
