Man admits to sex assault:

A North Chicago man was placed on probation for 30 months Tuesday after he admitted fondling a 10-year-old girl in a Mundelein hotel room. Roy Jacob, 46, was also ordered to complete sex offender treatment during the course of his sentence. Assistant State's Attorney Bolling Haxall said Jacob, of 234 Honore Ave., stayed overnight at the hotel with the girl on Oct. 27, 2006. The girl told her mother of the incident the following day and Mundelein police arrested Jacob after an investigation. Circuit Judge James Booras also ordered Jacob to make a $1,000 contribution to the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center and barred him from unsupervised contact with children under 17 while on probation.

Mundelein cops get grant:

Mundelein police have received a state grant to develop a plan to battle underage drinking. The grant -- $100,000 annually for up to three years -- will help pay for a survey, educational efforts and other programs, said a representative of Nicasa, a public service agency that is working with the department on the effort. Seventeen other agencies across the state received similar grants, but only the Mundelein Police Department is from Lake County.

Final outdoor concert set:

The final show in Mundelein's summertime outdoor concert series is set for 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The Lake Shore Symphony Orchestra will perform at Kracklauer Park, which is on Seymour Avenue at Courtland Street. The show is free, but audience members should bring their own chairs or blankets. Food will be available for purchase.

Wauconda gets EPA grant:

The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Wauconda a grant to retrofit the public works department's diesel engine fleet with diesel engine particulate filters. The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus obtained the $15,698 grant for the village. All vehicles bought in the last two years are already fitted with the filters and future diesel engine machines bought will also have them, the village said in a release to the media. "This enhancement is important for Wauconda," wrote Mayor Salvatore Saccomanno in the release. "It will benefit the environment and our community."

Registrations needed today:

The Grayslake elementary school district is asking parents to make sure their children's registration forms are in today in order to make sure he or she receives a bus assignment for the 2007-2008 school year. The assignments will be given out only to children who are eligible for transportation. Parents are asked to stop at their respective schools from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. to complete a form for their child.
