Lombard chamber moving:
It's moving day for the office of the Lombard Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The civic organization is moving out of its home at 225 W. St. Charles Road in downtown Lombard. The chamber's new address will be 10 Lilac Lane, along Main Street, between East Hickory Street and East Washington Boulevard. In January, the chamber announced it would move from St. Charles Road to find a place that better fit the organization's needs. It also provides space for Praga, a downtown restaurant at 229 W. St. Charles Road, to expand.
Lombard firefighter retires:
Longtime Lombard firefighter Fred Kwapisz will retire from the department Aug. 16. Kwapisz joined the fire department in 1979. For 20 years, he worked as a firefighter and paramedic. His final eight years were as a member of the department's fire prevention bureau. Lombard Chief George Seagraves said of Kwapisz's service, "The department is losing a very knowledgeable and devoted individual. He will be missed."
Glenbard student aces ACT:
Glenbard South student Michael Wurtz scored a perfect 36 on his ACT when taking the college entrance exam this spring as part of the Prairie State Achievement Exam. Wurtz is among only 46 Illinois students who got the perfect score as part of the spring testing, according to ACT officials.
