Blaze spreads from deck, displaces Naperville residents

Fire ravaged a Naperville house Monday.

Naperville firefighters responded 1928 Slippery Rock Road after getting a 911 call at 11:44 a.m. reporting a fire on the deck of a neighbor's house, officials said.

Firefighters arrived six minutes later to find the two-story, single-family house heavily involved in fire, which had spread from the deck up the exterior siding and inside to the attic, officials said.

Neighbors alerted two teenagers inside the house to get out, officials said.

The fire was under control within 11 minutes, but some fire officials stayed on the scene for up to four hours to help the family salvage personal property, officials said, who estimated the damage at $161,000 and said the house was uninhabitable.

No one was injured.

The origin of the fire was determined to be the outside wooden deck, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Lisle-Woodridge fire department assisted fighting the blaze. A total of 31 fire officials were on the scene.
