Young man treated for injuries after morning crash

A 22-year-old man was being treated Friday at Edward Hospital in Naperville for serious injuries stemming from a one-car early morning crash near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and Main Street in Naperville.

Police said Oscar Lopez of the 1400 block of North Eagle Street in Naperville apparently was driving a 1989 four-door Oldsmobile about 2:17 a.m. when the vehicle struck a tree in the parkway in front of a business at 905 N. Main St.

The initial investigation indicates the car was traveling east on Ogden Avenue when it crossed the westbound lanes and struck the tree head on.

Due to the serious nature of the incident, specially trained members of the police department's traffic section were called to the scene. As a result of the investigation, Ogden Avenue was closed between Washington Street and Webster Avenue until 5:30 a.m.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call (630) 420-6197.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old Wheaton boy was cited for two driving infractions later Friday morning when his car crashed into the backyard of a Naperville house.

Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said the boy was westbound on Plank Road near Springhill Drive when he attempted to pass two cars and lost control, crashed through a fence, hit two trees and came to a stop in the backyard of 1153 Greensfield Drive.

The boy was transported to Edward Hospital where he was treated and released. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions and improper passing.
