St. Charles economic coordinator heads to Texas

St. Charles officials said goodbye Friday to the city's economic development coordinator, who is leaving for a job in Texas.

Theresa Fawcett has held the position for more than a year, said Mayor Don DeWitte, who was sorry to see her go.

"She did a terrific job in the role," DeWitte said.

As economic development coordinator, Fawcett was charged with soliciting new businesses and helping ease their transitions into the community.

To that end, she worked with the local chamber of commerce and visitors bureau, among other organizations, under the city's planning and development department.

DeWitte also credited her for promoting development along the busy Randall Road corridor and for fostering communication among existing and incoming businesses as part of the $105 million First Street redevelopment project.

Fawcett, who is set to take on a similar position in Flower Mound, Texas, wrote in a note to colleagues that leaving was "not an easy decision." She chose Texas to be closer to family, she said.

"As I begin my new position ... I can only hope to attain a fraction of the great opportunities and experiences I have had the pleasure of being a part of here," Fawcett wrote. "Thanks, St. Charles."

DeWitte said the search for Fawcett's replacement will begin soon. Officials are in the process of writing a new job description to advertise the position, he said.
