Akorn announces FDA approval

BUFFALO GROVE -- Akorn Inc. Friday said that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted approval for over-the-counter use of Akorn's abbreviated new drug application for Ketotifen Fumarate Ophthalmic Solution, 0.025%, the generic equivalent of Novartis' Zaditor Ophthalmic Solution 0.025%. Zaditor is indicated for up to 12 hours of temporary relief of itchy eyes due to pollen, ragweed, grass, animal hair and dander. The brand product had annual sales of approximately $36 million in 2006, according to IMS sales data.

Composites One buys distributor

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS -- Composites One recently said it has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of PolyGard Inc. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, PolyGard is a regional distributor of composite materials. Composites One is also a distributor of composite materials offering customized logistics services, technical applications reviews, and regulatory compliance assistance. This acquisition marks Composites One's fifth in eight years.
