Round Lake man jailed on child pornography charges

A Round Lake Park man is in the Lake County Jail on 31 counts of child pornography possession.

David W. Cashmore, 44, of 534 E. Washington Street, was arrested at his home without incident around 5 p.m. Monday.

The arrest comes after a month-long investigation by the Round Lake Park - Hainesville police, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Northeastern Illinois Crime Lab, said Police Chief George FIlenko.

The investigation began, he said, when a confidential informant told police that Cashmore possessed pornography.

"We seized several computers and several hundreds of (compact discs) with images on them," Filenko said. "They're pretty graphic, some of the worst I've ever seen."

Cashmore is in jail on $100,000 bond. Each of the 31 counts is a class 3 felony and carries a possible 2-5 year prison sentence if Cashmore is convicted. .

Filenko said the investigation is not complete yet, and additional charges could come in the future.

How Cashmore obtained the images, and if he distributed them, is unknown at this time.

Filenko said police also aren't sure if Cashmore produced any of the images himself, or if any of the children depicted in the images were local.

"It's too early to tell," he said.
