Elgin Community College will hold an information session for students interesting in earning a bachelor's degree at ECC from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the Fox Valley University and Business Center on the ECC main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Representatives of ECC's three on-campus university partners -- Columbia College of Missouri, Northern Illinois University and Roosevelt University -- will be available to answer questions and offer information about programs, course offerings and other requirements. Applications will be accepted and visitors are encouraged to bring transcripts. Call (847) 214-7197.

South Elgin man injured:

A 32-year-old South Elgin man is in stable but serious condition after a motorcycle crash late Sunday night in Elgin, authorities said. Brian Volk was headed east on Adams Street when he hit a parked vehicle, lost control of his motorcycle, and slid 150 feet on the pavement, Elgin police said. Volk, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin for treatment of a serious head injury, police said. A witness reported that the motorcycle was the only vehicle traveling in the area at the time, police said.

Four U-46 buses vandalized:

Elgin Area School District U-46 officials discovered Monday four of the district's buses had been vandalized. Graffiti covered large sections of the buses, which were parked in the U-46 transportation department hub. U-46 spokesman Tony Sanders said transportation workers had removed nearly all of the graffiti by Monday afternoon.

FoxFire Fest help needed:

The city of Elgin is looking for volunteers to help staff FoxFire Fest, the city's newest art and culture event, scheduled for Aug. 3-5 at Festival Park. The event combines Elgin's Fine Arts Fest with a variety of local art, theater and music groups. City officials would like your help staffing the information booth, helping with kid and teen activities, monitoring the bike corral and picking up refuse. Huntley OKs plaza:

Huntley Grove last week became the latest shopping plaza to meet the village board's approval. The 37-acre property at Route 47 and Kreutzer Road will be anchored by a Wal-Mart Supercenter. Huntley Grove will also contain several other retailers. Tucker Development, the developer of the plaza, has not yet announced any tenants besides Wal-Mart. Plans for the rest of the plaza need to come before the village board for approval.

District 300 signups begin:

Mark your calendars for student registration in Community Unit District 300. Registration runs today through Thursday. The locations vary, depending on your child's feeder high school. For instance, students at Golfview Elementary School would register at Dundee-Crown High School.
