Cabela's to open Sept. 21:

Cabela's officials say its long-awaited Hoffman Estates store will open Sept. 21. The 185,000-square-foot outdoor sports gear retailer is expected to draw about 4 million visitors annually to the village's Prairie Stone Business Park. It's the company's first store in Illinois and 20th store overall. The store has begun hiring, and expects to hire nearly 400 employees. It will also feature live animals on display, including a lion and white rhino, as well as a 16,000-gallon aquarium.

4th Ward meeting Thursday:

Fourth Ward Alderman Jean Higgason will host a meeting for her residents on Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. in the pool room at Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Dempster/Thacker St., Des Plaines. Acting City Manager Jason Bajor, Fire Chief John Heavey, Police Chief Jim Prandini and Engineering Director Tim Oakley from engineering will be there to answer any questions.
