Tiara Tea: Tiara Tea has been planned for an elegant four-course dinner at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at Dover Straits restaurant on Golf Road in Hoffman Estates. It features nautical decor and a selection of seafood and meat.

At your table, choose an "early-bird" entree of your choice. The cost $26. Reservations, along with choice of dessert -- tiramisu, key lime pie, or creme brulee cheesecake -- are due by Aug. 9.

Fishing Derby: 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Wildflower Lake. Snacks, juice and bait will be provided. Bring your own fishing poles.

Grandma, Grandpa and Me Club: Club meets at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Prairie Lodge the first Wednesday of the month. Dues are $12 per family. Cancer group: Sun City's Breast Cancer Support Hour meets at 1 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month in the meeting room of the Mid-America Bank, across the street from Sun City, on Route 47.

The support group welcomes anyone from Sun City who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer or is a survivor to share ideas and friendship as part of healing. Yearly dues are $10.

Neighborhood 11: Neighborhood 11 is sponsoring Ladies Bocce Sept. 5 at the courts, followed by a box lunch from Vicaro's.

Only 32 spaces are available, so sign up and pay early. Deadline is Aug. 22. Total cost is $8 per person. Choice of sandwich -- ham with American cheese, roast beef with cheddar, turkey with Swiss cheese sandwich or wrap.

The box lunch includes the sandwich, chips, candy bar, a piece of fruit, mustard and mayo packets and napkin. Bring your own drink(s).

Quarterly meeting: Neighborhood 11 will hold its quarterly meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Meadowview Lodge. This is an important meeting, as election of neighborhood committee members will occur. Due to the CC&R's, this voting must take place at the third quarter meeting of neighborhoods.

One vote per household is allowed. Mark your calendars to attend this meeting. We are asking the residents from Kensington, Hampton Court and Nottingham to bring desserts.

Golf news:Å’The Sun City Golf Club will hold its second golf outing of the season Wednesday at Crystal Woods Golf Course.

The event is a shotgun start, modified scramble with prizes for both team and individual, beginning at 9 am. Lunch following the 18 holes is included.

This event is open to all members of the Sun City Golf Club. The cost is $70. Applications and information are available from Jim Penn at (224) 569-6208 and at the golf bulletin board outside the pro shop at Whisper Creek.

•The club will hold a putting party and barbecue for club members Wednesday at Whisper Creek Golf Course.

A mini-golf course will be set up on the practice green. A pitching "closest to the hole" contest will also take place on the practice range. The cost is $10 for club members and $12 for nonmembers. Applications are at the pro shop at Whisper Creek and below the golf bulletin board next to the Walleye Grill.

Spiritual Health Club: Sun City's Spiritual Health Club meets from 3:45 to 5:45 p.m. Thursdays in the community room of the MidAmerica Bank. The sessions include a focus topic and discussion during the first hour, a short break and then a guided meditation session in the second hour. The public is invited. Sew 'n' Sews: The club offers programs and workshops on a variety of interests to assist members at all skill levels. The sewing room equipment is available for use by members after an orientation is provided by the club monitors.

Open sewing hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30æ p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Evening hours are available by appointment with a monitor. Annual dues are $12.

The club meets at 9 a.m. the first Monday of the month in Drendel Ballroom.

Celtic Club: Sun City's Celtic Club meets at 6 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at the Meadow View Lodge. Happy hour is at 6 p.m., with cash bar and snacks provided by members. The meeting and activities begin at 7 p.m. Dues are $10.

Heifer Club: The club meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. every third Monday in the community room of the MidAmerica Bank. Meetings may include updates on community giving to Heifer International, sharing plans for activities, discussing new activities of Heifer International, new DVDs and planning projects for the future.

Heifer International is an organization that helps lift poor families out of poverty by providing livestock, training and support.

Chess club: Sun City's Chess Club plays from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays in the computer room of the Prairie Lodge. Chess players of all skill levels, including beginners, are welcome. SonShine Boys: SonShine Boys meets at 8:30 a.m. Fridays in the Citizens Bank community room. The format is a table discussion one week and a lecture every other week. There is an increased emphasis on prayer. For details, call Randy Bandy or Dave Billings at (847) 961-6143.

Book discussion groups: Two groups of the Sun City Book Discussion Club meet weekly at the following times and locations:

Sun City Flyers: The Sun City Flyers Club meets at 7 p.m. the third Thursday of every month in the multipurpose room of the Prairie Lodge. The club is open to all Sun City residents interested in the art and science of aviation. No piloting experience is necessary. For details about the club, call Allen Pollack at (847) 659-1563.

Grief support: Sun City's Grief Support Group is for those who need comfort because they have lost loved ones.

All grieving Sun City residents are welcome at meetings. Attendees should bring ideas, books and articles that have been useful to their own needs.

The group meets from 10æ a.m. to noon Fridays in the MidAmerica Bank's community room.

Learn to play bridge: Beginning and intermediate bridge players are invited to develop their skills in a Sun City contract bridge group from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays in the Prairie Lodge multipurpose room. Players may leave early to attend the Current Events Club gathering at 10:30 a.m.

The new group welcomes beginners, who receive help from the more experienced players in the group. Play is in a social, friendly atmosphere and singles are welcome.
