Kiwanis is seeking sponsors for peanuts

The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn is looking for sponsors for its Peanut Day Sept. 28-29. The club is seeking residents and businesses to sponsor a case of 100 packages of peanuts with a donation of $30. Checks, payable to the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn, may be mailed by Aug. 10 to P.O. Park district to host an ice cream social

The Carol Stream Park District will hold a free ice cream social at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Coral Cove Water Park, 849 Lies Road, Carol Stream. For details, call (630) 784-6130.

Wheaton symphony to play in concert

The Wheaton Symphony Orchestra and Chorus' concert is at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenbard South High School's new auditorium on Butterfield Road, east of Route 53, Glen Ellyn. The concert series includes a Classical Concert Tuesday and Irving Berlin & Andrew Lloyd Webber Aug. 3-4. Tickets are $24 per concert. For details, call (630) 790-1430.

Free performance is catered to kids

The Wheaton Municipal Band continues its free summer concert series with an Interactive Kids' Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park, Wheaton and Union avenues, Wheaton.

The activities include an Instrument Petting Zoo and informal small ensemble concert featuring 10 instruments for the youngsters to play.

The band's indoor concert, "A Warren Barker Tribute," will be at 8 p.m. July 28 in Edman Chapel, Wheaton College, Washington and Franklin streets, Wheaton. The concert features father and son tenors Richard and Shawn Mathey and soprano Sujin Lee.

Tickets are available at the Thursday concert or at the chapel on concert night for $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and teens and $1 for children ages 12 and younger. For details, visit www.wheatonmunicipalband.org.

Photographer looks at covering the war

Photographer Zbigniew Bzdak will discuss his experiences in Iraq and the Challenges of Covering a New Kind of War at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the First Division Museum, Cantigny Park, 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. Dist. 87 announces new summer hours

Glenbard District 87 has adjusted the schools' summer hours to better accommodate families.

Access to guidance counselors, administrators and staff will be available from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Aug. 1 and 8. Assistance with scheduling enrollment, waivers, free and reduced lunch applications, residency issues and questions will be available, as will special education staff.
