District 59 honored with excellence award

Elk Grove Township Elementary School District 59 was one of 84 school districts in the state to be awarded the SchoolSearch 2007 Bright Red Apple Award of Excellence.

All 872 school districts in Illinois are considered for the award.

The award is based on five categories: academic performance, pupil/teacher ratio, operating expenditure per pupil, educational levels of teachers and average teacher salary.

SchoolSearch is a Kansas City-based firm that works with major companies, homebuilders, school districts, libraries, real estate professionals, legislators and relocating families to provide comparative school district information.

Free concert: Enjoy an outdoor evening concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Pavilion Gazebo, 1000 Wellington Ave., Elk Grove Village. The 30th Annual Summer Concert Series will be featuring The Only Sons.

Bring your lawn chairs and don't worry about weather; The rain site is inside the Pavilion gym.

This group features an extensive play list that covers the dance hits of the 1970s and 1980s, classic rock, as well as the best stuff of the 1990s.

Don't miss registration: Youth soccer registration for fall is currently in progress. The last day you may register is Aug. 3.

The Elk Grove Youth Soccer association is for children in kindergarten to eighth grade.

You can register at the Pavilion, 1000 Wellington Ave. in Elk Grove Village during regular office hours, which are 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Working together: Last week, the Elk Grove Park District Parks Department and Home Depot of Elk Grove teamed up for a park revitalization project.

Team Depot is an employee volunteer program with Home Depot. The mission is to build community unity.

Nine employees from the Elk Grove store volunteered a full morning of their time to re-landscape Lindberg Park on Glenn Trail.

Together the two organizations worked to enhance the Elk Grove community.

The Elk Grove Parks department provided the equipment, plants, and mulch and horticulture assistance.
