Day at the Races benefits Canine Companions
The 18th annual Day at the Races fundraiser for Canine Companions for Independence will be Aug. 4 at Arlington Park Racecourse.
If you plan to attend, you are encouraged to get your reservations in by Wednesday. Tickets, which are 50 percent tax-deductible, include all-day live horse racing, lunch buffet, open bar, track and event program, drawings, silent auction and CCI demonstration. Reserved seating costs $80, $40 for ages 4 to 11; and $125 for prime window seats which are limited. Call (847) 816-7360.
Canine Companions for Independence is a not-for-profit organization that provides people with disabilities with highly trained assistance dogs and also encouragement for independence.
Agility Trial deadline: Agility Ability Club of Illinois has set 6 p.m. July 27 as the deadline to enter its Aug. 11 to 12 Agility Trials at Creekwood Meadows, 252 Creek Road, Plano. Dog Days: Kingswood United Methodist Church at 401 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove will go to the dogs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with Dog Days of Summer. It will include Blessings of the Animals, a pet fair and more. Call the church at (847) 398-0776 to register your animals or for details.

Deadlines: Although the show and trial dates seem a long way off, the entry deadline is Aug. 8 for both Elgin Kennel Club's show and trials, and the German Shepherd Dog Training Club of Chicago's trials.
