There was no Woodstock Groundhog Days before the movie came out in 1992,” said Rick Bellairs, member of the Woodstock Groundhog Days Committee.

Both of these time slots are meant to appeal to those who are not able to attend a service but still have a desire to worship remotely.

    This past November, PADS kicked off its year-end giving campaign, “Give the Gift of Shelter,” with the goal of raising $80,000 for the program — which costs over $700,000 to operate annually. Thanks to the generosity of our community, PADS is 90 percent of the way to meeting this goal. “We have until the end of January to meet our goal before the campaign ends,” said Christin Kruse, Chief Development Officer. “And we believe we can do it with your help. The PADS program truly makes a difference in the lives of people in our community.”

     
  • Lindo Theatre presents classic Cold War thriller “Fail Safe” Jan 20, 2015 6:03 PM
    The Cold War Film Series continues at the Lindo Theatre with the thriller “Fail Safe” (G-112 min) on Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 1 and 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, and tickets are on sale at the Lindo Theatre box office, located at 115 S. Chicago Ave. in downtown Freeport, or online at www.classiccinemas.com. A brief introduction before each movie and a discussion will follow the film presentation, led by Dr. Ed Finch and Alan Wenzel. The film takes place during the Cold War; U.S. bomber jets are equipped with fail-safe boxes that instruct pilots when and if to attack. When an attack order is inadvertently administered due to a system malfunction, the president played by renowned actor Henry Fonda must scramble to fix the mistake before the bombs are dropped on Moscow. He manages to stop almost all the bombers headed for Moscow, except for one determined pilot who manages to complete his mission, with deadly consequences. The film also stars Walter Matthau, Larry Hagman and Don DeLuise. The Cold War Film Series, which is co-sponsored by Highland Community College and the Stephenson County Museum, continues with “Dr. Strangelove” on March 4, “October Sky” on April 1, and concludes April 29 with a bonus movie, “The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming.” Admission to the “Russians Are Coming …” film is $5 per person or complimentary to those who purchased tickets for the entire film series.
