Hurst, Naperville Central outclassing opponents Apr 28, 2013 12:00 AM
Naperville Central boys lacrosse coach Tim Hurst thought the Redhawks would be contenders in the B Class this spring. What he didn't expect was for his team to get off to such a fantastic start while knocking off Class A teams in the process. The Redhawks opened the season with a statement victory over Neuqua Valley, throttling the Class A Wildcats 12-5. They've followed it up with impressive wins over a handful of other Class A foes, including town rival Naperville North, as well as Benet and St. Charles North, a team that had the state's highest ranking earlier this spring.

St. Francis scores early and often Apr 24, 2013 12:00 AM
St. Francis is making it a habit to score early runs on the road this season. It's a pattern Ralph Remus can get used to. "That's a good way to start the game," said the Spartans coach, congratulating his girls on doing do Wednesday. "It's a runs advantage, and it's a psychological advantage to come out like that." The Spartans sure got off the bus swinging Wednesday. St. Francis batted around in a six-run first inning, setting the tone in a 15-6 win at Wheaton Academy.

Kaneland claims title at East Moline Apr 6, 2013 12:00 AM
Showing strength over all three levels, Kaneland won East Moline's United Township Kiwanis Invitational for the first time in its seven trips there. "It was one of those where we hit on almost every cylinder," said Knights coach Eric Baron. "We scored in every event." Getting what Baron called "a pleasant surprise" out of pole vaulter Dylan Kuiper and a personal-best shot put mark of 52 feet, 4 inches from Nate Dyer among many highlights, Kaneland's 260 points topped United's 220.50, Geneseo's 204 and Rock Island's 184.
