Kenneth M. Matlock, whose last known address was in Woodridge, was charged with one count of felony bank robbery Monday. He was arrested shortly after the BMO Harris branch robbery Friday.

Plainfield man sentenced in pregnant woman's death

A 37-year-old Illinois man was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences without parole for the murder of a pregnant woman and her fetus in Wisconsin. Brian Cooper of Plainfield was sentenced in Door County Circuit Court Thursday. He was found guilty in May of two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, the Door County Advocate reported.
Naper Settlement may add agricultural history center

Take one look at the Naperville of 2014 and it's hard to see the city's history is deeply rooted in farming. Naperville's historical stewards want to change that. "It's an important piece of Naperville history," said Debbie Grinnell, vice president of museum services for Naper Settlement. "Especially in today's environment, when people see the modern Naperville they don't realize what farming meant to the community."

Michael Stragand of Plainfield is no stranger to Mustangs. He's owned nearly a dozen versions of Ford's darling sports coupe. In fact, he drove out to Virginia when he learned that a 2005 Saleen version from the movie "Transformers" was available. "I caught wind of it being for sale in 2013," Stragand said. "On a whim, I decided to go for it."
Online, mobile ER registration streamline process

Lake Forest Hospital's emergency room has launched an online check-in system for patients with nonlife-threatening illnesses. Beginning July 1, patients were able to complete online forms to start the check-in process and let ER staff know when to expect them. The online check-in started at its related Northwestern Grayslake Emergency Center last summer, said spokeswoman Kelly Klopp.
5 tornadoes hit Illinois Monday, weather service says

The National Weather Service is now reporting five tornadoes touched down in Illinois during a storm that dumped heavy rain as it swept across the state. The weather service confirmed a tornado touched down in Plainfield, causing some damage.
In Naperville, it's still about where you live

A Plainfield letter to the editor: In 1975, we moved to Naperville. We were told pointedly "by the natives" that since we resided south of 75th, we were not "true Napervillians." In subsequent years, as Naperville rapidly grew, the "center of town," so to speak, shifted to south of 75th Street, a fact that the "natives" still refused to acknowledge.
