  • Sun City Train Club hosts holiday display Nov 17, 2014 6:53 PM
    The Model Railroad Club of Sun City Huntley will be running model trains this holiday season, starting Saturday, Nov. 22, through Dec. 28. Each year, the club raffles off three model train sets. This year’s raffle is a Canadian Pacific Passenger Train set that includes engine, cars, track and a transformer.

    Lake County 4-H Teens lead the annual officer training on November 11. Thirty five youth participated in a Parliamentary Procedure Jeopardy game created by Avni Patel, learned the importance of being a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer taught by Maddie Currie, Abby Daniels, Charlotte Roberts and parent volunteer Robbie Roberts.

     
  • Health care, Medicaid enrollment assistance offered in Elgin Nov 14, 2014 3:34 PM
    Administer Justice, a local nonprofit offering free legal aid, financial counseling and educational services, has partnered with VNA Health Care to provide free Medicaid and Marketplace enrollment assistance. On the third Tuesday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., VNA Health Care Certified Navigators will be available at the office of Administer Justice.

    Huntley High School students will present “Shakespeare in Hollywood” by Ken Ludwig at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 13-15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16. Directed by Steve Sturm, William Shakespeare’s classic comedy combines with Hollywood’s classic comedy in a night of love, laughter and mistaken identity. It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized

  • Midwest Sports Academy Christmas toy drive to benefit needy Chicago-area children Nov 3, 2014 8:17 PM
    When the Ronald McDonald Hospital in Chicago reported a desperate need for toys for children in 107 families this Christmas, Jim Cook decided Midwest Sports Academy would serve as Santa Claus for these underprivileged kids. But, organizing a toy drive for the hospital was only part of Cook’s plan. The Midwest Sports Academy CEO and founder expanded the toy drive to include needy families of students attending Washington Elementary School in Elgin and Willard Elementary School in South Elgin. The charity effort will provide toys and other gifts for boys and girls, age 1 to 14.

  • Suburban teen releases song/video for Chronic Pain Awareness Nov. 2 Oct 31, 2014 6:12 PM
    A local 14-year-old girl wrote, recorded and released a song on iTunes and a music video on YouTube to create awareness for reflex sympathetic dystrophy, also known as complex regional pain syndrome. The song, written by Danielle Stratton, is about her struggle with chronic pain over the last four years.
