    Attorney in 2002 Johnsburg slaying wants DNA, new statements revealed May 11, 2012 12:00 AM
    The attorney for Mario Casciaro, who faces murder charges that he killed a man in 2002 over a drug debt, wants potentially exonerating statements from a state witness allowed in Casciaro's next trial in late July. The first trial in the murder of Brian Carrick of Johnsburg ended with a hung jury.

     
  • Coast Guard safety classes scheduled May 2, 2012 12:00 AM
    U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 7-11 has scheduled two remaining boating safety classes this spring. Each class consists of two mandatory sessions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays. The first class will be held May 12 and 19 at Bald Knob Marina, 515 Bald Knob Road in Johnsburg. The second class will take place June 9 and 16 at West Marine, 63 W. Rand Road in Arlington Heights.

    A 40-year plan calling for the expansion of McHenry County College could cost $640 million -- $278.5 million in the first decade alone. The master plan was fully unveiled Thursday night, along with its hefty price tag. Senior project manager Leanne Meyer-Smith, of Wight & Co., which devised the plan, said it places a strong emphasis on technology, sustainability and wellness.

    McHenry County College's student group Pride is putting the spotlight on violence in order to combat it. The hallways are dotted with 10 bodies outlined in white duct tape, each flanked by a photo and description of a different member of the LGBTQ community who was either murdered in hate crimes or committed suicide because they were being bullied.

    MCC forensics team 4th in state meet Mar 24, 2012 12:00 AM
    The McHenry County College Forensics Team won fourth place at the Illinois Inter-Collegiate Forensics Association Tournament hosted recently by Illinois Central College in East Peoria. This was the first time the team won three first places at the state tournament, said Forensics team coach Bonnie Gabel. In April, MCC will compete in the Phi Rho Pi National Tournament in Schaumburg.
