    More than 30 years ago, park district commissioners in Hanover Park applied for an artist in residence for their newly established Art Studio and Gallery. That artist, Susan Matthews, came to them fresh out of school with her master's degree in fine arts, and she has never left. “I was lucky enough to find my way here,” she said shortly before her June 30 retirement.

    Tennis fans in Hanover Park can hit strokes in a revamped indoor dome that park district officials say feels bigger and more comfortable. The district spent about $540,000 to replace the facility's exterior fabric and install a new heating system. Officials are expected to show off the improvements Jan. 27, when the dome reopens to players at the Centre Court Athletic Club.

    The indoor tennis dome at the Centre Court Athletic Club has collapsed one too many times for the liking of Hanover Park Park District officials, who this week approved a bond sale to fund its replacement. The board voted at a special meeting to borrow up to $500,000 for the project. ďItís come to the end of its life a lot sooner than we had planned on,Ē financial services administrator Larry Wheeler said.

    The Hanover Park Park Foundation will host its fourth annual Youth Benefit Ball from 6:30 p.m. to midnight Thursday, April 11, at the Seville, 700 Barrington Road, Streamwood. Proceeds benefit the Youth Assistance Scholarship Program in Hanover Park. Tickets are $55 per person, $100 per couple and $450 per table of 10.

  • Bartlett High School students charged in robbery, baseball bat beating Aug 24, 2012 4:40 PM
    Two Bartlett High School students were held Friday on charges stemming from a Hanover Park robbery. Prosecutors said Deishaad Hamlin beat the victim with a baseball bat while Leon Gonzalez acted as the getaway driver.

  • Indoor tennis dome collapses in Hanover Park Jun 26, 2012 12:31 PM
    Roughly 20 tennis players exchanging forehands and volleys Sunday afternoon on indoor tennis courts in Hanover Park got a surprise when the ceiling began to cave in. Park district officials aren't yet sure what caused the air-supported dome to collapse. It took 20 or 30 minutes to completely deflate, allowing everyone inside to escape unharmed.
