    A 16-year-old female walking to school Friday morning in Bensenville was threatened by a man with a knife who may have been trying to kidnap her, authorities said. The student was walking to Fenton High School when she was approached at the corner of Green Street and Logan Way just before 7:30 a.m., according to Bensenville police.

    In Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211, 42.5 percent of retired educators receive pensions of more than $100,000 a year, according to state retirement system data. Other suburban schools, including Stevenson High School District 125, Leyden High School District 212 and Fenton High School District 100, aren't far behind. Across the suburbs, 7 percent of retired public school educators get six-figure pensions, compared to less than 1 percent downstate.

    A Fenton High School basketball alumnus will represent Nigeria this month at the summer Olympics in London, and his former coach from said he could not be more proud of Richard Oruche. "I was just ecstatic," former Fenton varsity coach Dennis Cromer said. Oruche is a dual citizen of Nigeria, his parents' homeland, and the United States, where he grew up in Bensenville and attended Fenton from 2001-05.

    During his childhood in Wood Dale, Joshua Castellano played sports he loved like football, baseball or basketball. It was only a fluke that he started wrestling at Fenton High School in Bensenville as a freshman in 2005, when Castellano's coach said the sport might improve his football skills. But coaches quickly recognized his talent, and today wrestling might take the 21-year-old college student to the Summer Olympics in London.

    Fenton High School's Special Olympics basketball team is much closer to collecting funds needed to compete in a state tournament next month. After reading an article about the Bensenville team last week in the Daily Herald, an anonymous donor from Bloomingdale gave $1,000 to their effort, while a local bank donated $500.

     
  • Fenton charity game to help Special Olympics team compete at state Feb 6, 2012 5:38 PM
    Fenton High School’s Special Olympics basketball team formed just last year, yet players are already on their way to their second state championship. This spring, the team from Bensenville will head to Bloomington-Normal to compete in the state basketball March 16-18. On Feb. 8, Fenton will host a charity basketball game to raise about $2,000 needed for the team to travel to the tournament.
