    Cynthia Santos, Frank Avila and Tim Bradford appear to have cruised to easy victories in the Democratic primary for three nominations to the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District board. With about 98 percent of the precincts reporting early Wednesday morning, unofficial totals show incumbent Santos with 112,573 votes, or 18.3 percent; incumbent Avila with 111,120 votes, or 18 percent; and Bradford with 107,243 votes, or 17.4 percent.

    Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart won the Democratic nomination in his bid for a third term Tuesday, easily outpacing the three other candidates in the primary. With 52 precincts still uncounted — 23 in Chicago and 29 in Cook County — Dart had 171,006 votes to 35,244 for William “Bill” Evans, his closest opponent.

    A political newcomer declared victory Tuesday night as he held a slim lead in the 20th House District Democratic primary election race. With 84 of 85 precincts reporting, Mo Khan led Jerry Acciari 2,200 to 2,043 votes, according to unofficial returns.
