Celebrate the joy of giving with food, monetary donations for Lazarus House

Lazarus House in St. Charles invites you to get involved and help celebrate the holidays.

They need many volunteers to cook, provide food and supplies, as well as assist or be a guest.

These events are traditions in the community so consider helping them make it a success. You can find more details on the website at lazarushouse.net.

The Thanksgiving Community Feast will be noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at The Salvation Army Tri Cities Corps, 1710 S. Seventh Ave., St. Charles.

The Community Christmas Brunch is set for noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, in the Lazarus House fellowship hall, 214 Walnut St. in St. Charles.

You are invited to come celebrate at both of these free events with neighbors in the community.

At the potluck-style buffet meals, you will enjoy delicious food, music and fellowship. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The food and supplies needed for the Thanksgiving Feast are: turkeys (thawed and uncooked); vegetable and salad dishes; hot dishes of potatoes or stuffing; cans of gravy or cranberries; tubs of whipped cream; half & half; butter; juice/soda; white rectangular plastic tablecloths; paper towels; disposable foil pans (1/2 size and full size); Clorox clean up spray; take-home containers; and bags of ice.

The food and supplies needed for the Christmas Brunch are: turkey; potato dish; stuffing; vegetable dish; salad; dessert; cans of gravy or cranberries; tubs of whipped cream; sticks of butter; coffee, juice, pop (2 liters); cases of water bottles; half & half; bags of ice; sturdy dinner plates, dessert plates and plastic silverware; Thanksgiving-themed napkins; white napkins; white round and rectangular plastic tablecloths; paper coffee cups; plastic cups; sweetener and sugar packets; Hefty garbage bags (45 gallon); disposable foil pans (large & half size); take-home containers; wide aluminum foil; paper towels; and Clorox cleaner spray.

Gift giving honorary gifts:

Make a donation in honor of friends, relatives and teachers who have a special place in your life. Give us their name and address so we can share this cherished gift with them.

Memorial gifts:

Give a gift to remember someone special who has passed. Give us the name and address of a loved one so we can send a note of your kindness.

Gift cards:

Donate Visa, MasterCard and American Express gift cards. These allow us to meet the specific needs of our guests throughout the year. Write the monetary value on the card.

Wrapped gifts:

Be a holiday elf and help give the guests a special Christmas morning. Purchase and wrap specified presents from gift tags that are created from the guests' wish lists. Contact Anne at volunteer@lazarushouse.net to request tags and receive more details.

Lazarus House is a 501(c)3 homeless shelter in St. Charles that offers hospitality, food, safe shelter and education. The Emergency Shelter, Center for Transitional Living and Outreach Program serves men, women, & children from Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, and western rural Kane County, including Elburn and Sugar Grove.
