St. Charles library's outreach services selected for ASCLA's Exceptional Service Award

The St. Charles Public Library's Outreach Services department has been selected for the 2018 ASCLA Exceptional Service Award administered by the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies.

The outreach services department has been delivering library materials to residents of the St. Charles Public Library District for over 40 years.

Through engagement, social interaction, collaboration, community awareness and community partnerships, the outreach services department has taken traditional library services and expanded services to include hospitals, a local homeless shelter, senior assisted living and retirement facilities; established eight new community book exchanges; increased services to patrons with Alzheimer's disease and dementia; and launched programming at facilities.

Members of the outreach services staff include David Kelsey, Dana Hintz, Lynda Spraner and Christine Steck.

They continually develop new and innovative ways to make a meaningful different in the lives of individuals who cannot visit the library in person.

Due to their dedicated staff, outreach services has grown from serving 79 patrons in April 2015, to currently serving over 250 patrons each month, a 316-percent increase.

The St. Charles Public Library Outreach Services department will be honored at the ASCLA Achievement Awards Ceremony from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the American Library Association annual conference in New Orleans.

The library is located at One S. Sixth Ave. in St. Charles. For more information, visit www.scpld.org or call (630) 584-0076.
