St. Charles North senior Alexander Kadolph earns Eagle Scout rank

Boy Scout Troop 10 recently recognized Alexander Kadolph for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor April 15 at St. Patrick Parish in St. Charles.

Alexander began his scouting career in first grade alongside his twin brother, Jacob, as a Tiger Cub with Anderson Elementary School's Pack 151 where he enjoyed various scouting activities including camping and pinewood derbies.

He crossed over to St. Patrick Church's Troop 10 in the fifth grade after he earned his Arrow of Light.

As a Boy Scout, Alex earned 31 merit badges, including 13 Eagle-required merit badges. Eagle Palms may be earned by active Eagle Scouts who earn greater than 21 merit badges. As a result, Alex was awarded the Eagle Bronze and Gold Palms. He is certified in Wilderness First Aid, CPR and AED. He held various positions in Troop 10, including troop guide, troop instructor, troop historian, scribe, librarian, chaplain's aide, and patrol leader.

A senior at St. Charles North, Alex has been a member of the high school swim team for the past 4 years. His dedication to the sport has not only conditioned him mentally and physically but has also solidified his work ethic. He is a member of the Key Club, a service club.

He plays the piano and participated in the American Grands piano concert at Elgin Community College.

Alex's Eagle Project was completed on Nov. 4, 2017. His project beneficiary is Hesed House in Aurora. The landscaping project included weeding the garden, regrading the soil, placement of landscape fabric and application of 22 cubic yards of mulch. Two drainage trenches were dug below downspouts and filled with a ton of landscape rocks to provide a natural rain water runoff to prevent soil erosion.

Twenty-one volunteers (Scouts, family, and friends) donated 131 man hours to help complete the project. Alex would like to thank Thomas Aguilar from Hesed House, project beneficiary; Chris Vonderhaar, his Eagle mentor; Advanced Material Services, LLC in Aurora for donating the mulch; and Bob Evans Firewood and Mulch Inc. in St. Charles for the delivery of rocks and mulch.

To the Troop 10 scouts, leaders and committee members and family and friends, thank you for all you have done to help Alex succeed. Through scouting and Troop 10, Alex has grown into a well-rounded young man who realized that discipline and always giving one's best achieves goals. He learned to give back to others through community service. As he moves on in life to pursue his interests in the fields of communication and health care, Alex's Catholic faith and the Scout Laws will no doubt guide his path.
